The LitterBugz Announces Inaugural LBz Leadership Conference

CLEVELAND, Oh (May 22, 2018) – Local litter pickup and recycling action group The LitterBugz have announced their inaugural Leadership Conference happening November 8 – 10 at Embassy Suites Cleveland-Rockside.  The conference’s objective is to improve the members’ confidence, knowledge and ability to generate ideas and resources to improve awareness, increase community activity, generate additional sponsorships, increase donations and eventually drive the LitterBugz to pick up all of the litter from Cuyahoga County in one day.

Offering 20 round table discussions, 6 interactive workshops, and numerous presentations, the conference is set to bring in national and potentially international guests.  Special celebrity speakers are expected and will not be announced before the conference.  The LitterBugz have been hosting the Great Cleveland Clean-Up every April for five straight years pulling in over 3,000 volunteers collectively.  The group estimates approximately 5,000 volunteers are needed to accomplish the goal:  removing all of the litter from Cuyahoga County in just two hours.

The Leadership Conference is an opportunity for you to meet experienced territory coordinators, interact with passionate environmentalists, and learn how to quickly clean up a community.  The LitterBugz are offering various sponsorship opportunities and advertisements to offset the costs for environmentalists and coordinators to attend the event.  Event speakers, musicians, and hosts have been posted on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/events/1372969072802603/.  To learn more, reach out to Executive Director, Jeff Schlekie at jeff@thelitterbugz.org or 440-829-4703.

Background & History of The LitterBugz

During the spring of 2011, a group of students started picking up litter in different neighborhoods weekly. Each volunteer wore a t-shirt that read, “I Hate Trash.” As they moved areas, residents would help by picking up their own trash. By August, the group had signed up over 500 volunteers, making an extreme difference in the community. The LitterBugz cleans neighborhoods & they do it strategically. This group started at The University of Toledo and quickly moved to Cleveland as the founders and committee leaders are originally from the Greater Cleveland Area.
