Local Organization Announces Citywide Litter Clean-Up
CLEVELAND, Oh (February 16th, 2017) – Local litter and recycling action group, The LitterBugz, has announced its 4th annual Great Cleveland Clean-Up for Saturday, April 22nd. Working towards removing all of the litter from Cleveland in one single day, this event connects volunteers across the city by offering 25 meetup locations; making it easier than ever for volunteers to get involved. The event starts at 12:30pm with an optional celebration after. LitterBugz clean-ups primarily focus on removing litter from parks, sidewalks, playgrounds, neighborhoods, and highway exists & entrances. This is not only an ideal event for employees or students to receive community service hours, but also a great way for environmental enthusiasts to contribute towards beautifying Cleveland! Background & History of The LitterBugz
During the spring of 2011, a group of students started picking up litter in different neighborhoods weekly. Each volunteer wore a t-shirt that read, “I Hate Trash.” As they moved areas, residents would help by picking up their own trash. By August, the group had signed up over 500 volunteers, making an extreme difference in the community. The LitterBugz cleans neighborhoods & they do it strategically. This group started at The University of Toledo and quickly moved to Cleveland as the founders and committee leaders are originally from the Greater Cleveland Area.
